Our first stop....Puerto Rico...111 x 35 miles, population 4 million. 40% of US pharmaceuticals come from Puerto Rico.. 15 years ago 51 homes were wiped out in a hurricane. They were replaced by Ricki Martin. 42 different types of bananas, 3,500 feet above sea level. This is the view of the island as our ship approached.
We took a bus tour into the rain forest. This is our guide, Pedro. Along with being a very informative guide, he was a comedian plus!! He kept looking at Salt shaking his head and saying I was "trouble"...Little did he really know!
This picture is blurry as I had to take it out of a moving bus window. It is braille along one of the walls on the highway depicting a Beatles' song.
This was one of the signs we saw as we entered the rain forest.....quite profound, to say the least!
I am crazy over ferns, so you can imagine how quickly I fell in love with these giants!
Oh surprise....we got aught in the rain in the "rain forest"....
Where else would you see inpatients growing wild on an old palpitated building????
These huge leaves grow all over the forest. Pedro took one and showed how the natives make hats to keep off the sun and rain.
Beautiful flowers throughout the forest.
One of the beautiful waterfalls....
and streams winding down the hills....
The fabulous 4 after a rain storm....
The streets of Puerto Rico....a little shopping before going back to the ship.
