Early Monday morning we headed for VA Beach for a short visit with Mike. He was moving into a new apartment, so Salt and I helped him get set up....and of course "Mom" had to be sure he had a new bedroom suite and lots of groceries :). Since he is working and going to school, it was a short visit, but was great having some good quality time with him.
This was one of the rest areas we stopped at along the way. It was so quaint with the little cottage that housed the information bureau......
The day after we returned home, we went over to Phil and Yuvone Marra's for lunch and a nice visit. Here is one of Salt's famous pictures with his thumb over the lens.....
And of course we were home in time for Scotch Doubles....check out our second game....love it when 9s count as a strike. Salt and I came in 4th which at least paid $20. It wasn't as nice as first but it did pay for our entry fee.....
We took a trip to the 75th annual Strawberry Festival in Plant City. We choose Sunday, as Darius Rucker was the lead entertainer that evening. When we arrived at the festival, we passed one parking lot after another...all FULL. We were just a sort ways from the entrance when Salt stopped to let a women out of a driveway and into our lane of traffic. As she came out she told us that her spot was available. YEAH...lucked out again!!
The weather was beautiful, and we thoroughly enjoyed the day. I loved this building which housed all the entries for such things, as cake decorating, quilting, baking, etc. Below are a few of the winners.
Believe it or not this is a CAKE...(overall winner). The vase is cake and the flowers are all made from frosting!!
Two of the quilt winners. There were so many beautiful quilts!!
We were there for the "Beautiful Baby Contest" and there were indeed some cuties participating...
My favorite....could it be the red hair and pigtails?
The best part was the diaper decorating contest....Oh my gosh, talk about creativity. I wish I could post them all, but here are a few. The little girl on the left had a pot of gold at the end of the radio.
and the cutie on the right (one of my favorites, although not the winner) was the John Deere tractor. He stumbled out on the stage in his little boots, flashing the sign.
And this was the bare naked cowboy. It was so hard to get pictures of these kids, they were all moving like lightening....
We had a little time before our concert so we listened to some good Bluegrass.....
And of course.....indulged in their fabulous strawberry shortcakes....
Darius Rucker put on a great concert....well worth the trip. I called the kids while we were there so they could get a little taste of the concert. Mike was working so he didn't get back with me but Betty messaged me back and asked if we wanted to go with her and Emma to see Alan Jackson in July (for Emma's birthday)....Well YES.. Love that we can be with Em at her first concert.
