A patchwork quilt of life....memories embroidered on your soul....

Tuesday we decided to take a day off and tour the island in the truck. Salt and Gene were given the honorary seats in the back while I drove and Ruth rode up front with me. I made it Ruth's responsibility to yell "duck" whenever we were approaching low limbs.

Oh yeah and Salt is trying to act "important" because he has a chauffeur.....

We did the usual island sights including a stop at Jim Adamson's so the boys could drool over all his toys....

After showing them the "hub" of the island (church, community hall education building and carriage house) we stopped in at the annual quilt show which was being held in the carriage house. Once again Brenda and Linda Brown did a fabulous job of displaying years of island history.

This particular quilt was done by a bunch of the ladies as a joint effort. It recognizes many unusual things about the island....Dick Matthews iceboat which is the mode of winter transportation and the picture below depicts the school boat owned and operated by Salt for many years. The one room school house closed in 1989 and Salt continued to run the kids into the town schools for several more years.

I didn't take count, but there were several quilts displayed.....

Here are some of my favorites....mainly because they are a little different from many of the often used patterns......

At the end of the day we came back to the house and had a dinner of Speidies and another sunset to enjoy our after dinner coffee.
