And up from the ground came a bubbling crude...OIL, that is...Texas tea....

Before heading to New Orleans, we drove to Beaumont, TX and the Lucas Gusher Museum...
A whole new chapter of history I was not aware of.... http://www.spindletop.org/ . It's such a great story, anyone the least bit interested in Texas oil history should read up on this.....

At the time of the "find"....the entire world was only producing about 35 barrels of oil/day. When the Lucas Gusher blew, it took 9 days to cap it and it was spitting out about 100,000 barrels of oil/day. And so at approximately 10:30 a.m. on January 10, 1901 the Texas Oil boom began.....

By 1902 over 600 oil companies had been chartered....

Practically overnight, the town began to bloom. When I saw this sign, I thought the barber was removing tonsils....had to consult the dictionary. How come I never knew that word????? I thought maybe the barber took out tonsils, especially since you could also get a tooth pulled here.

The saloon was great, swinging doors and all....I particularly like the sign!!

And in the post office we found this sign posted......

Wonder how many people bought some of these stocks and passed them down????

Cool stained glass......We left in the rain and headed for New Orleans. We are settled in at our hotel, and plan to spend the day in New Orleans tomorrow. After that we head on back to Florida where I can now put up our tree and prepare for our Christmas festivities!!
We were backed up in traffic for miles....A hazmat truck overturned at 4:00 a.m. and at
4:00 p.m. they were just getting it upright, the contents pumped into another tanker and the mess cleaned up.
