Oh Oh Mexico....it sounds so simple I just got to go....

I must say, today was certainly the most exciting day of our vacation so far!!!

We planned to go to Progreso, Mexico tomorrow, but decided at the last minute to take a drive over today and just look around and then go back tomorrow when it wasn't so crowded and do our shopping.

Just after crossing into Mexico, we saw this sign and thought...."how nice, they really appreciate us".....

This is the infamous Fence that is being built along the border. We saw miles of it before we actually saw where they now are pouring concrete so no one can dig under it.

We were only in the town for about a half hour (checking out the bargains).......

When all of a sudden we heard what sounded like a whole bunch of fireworks being shot off. I figured it was probably all a part of the festival which was being held today. Then....when more soldiers started running down the street with machine guns and people started hitting the dirt (literally). We found out it wasn't a celebration. It was a shootout between the military police and the drug cartel. There was all kinds of yelling and panic as we were pushed into this store. I am behind the guy pulling down the steel door. He is yelling "for your protection, for your protection". As soon as it was safe (presumably) he opened it and you could see all the merchants throwing their "stuff" in bags and clearing the streets.
The shoot off lasted about an hour, and according to the local news (back in Texas), several were killed and three men were taken into custody. We know no Americans were involved, but other than that, we don't have too many more details. I am sure by tomorrow morning, we will have a better idea what exactly went down. We know they shut the border for two hours to oncoming people, but they did allow people to leave and go back to the states. We went into a restaurant on the 7th floor and had lunch and then came back across. It was pretty hairy!!!!

Military all over.......

You can see the girl in the corner, rushing to get her display broken down.....

This will be an experience to go down in the books!!!

Oh yeah, I got so flustered trying to find change to get out of the turnstiles, I dropped and destroyed my camera. Stopped on the way home and bought a new one!!!
